Prologue: The Start of It All
My head was pounding, what the hell happened to me? I couldn't feel much of my body through the blinding pain. A coppery taste filled my mouth as I bit down on my lip. What the—I could faintly remember going out to a club with my friends who seemed more like annoying stalkers before leaving them halfway through the night. Then… I don't remember!

Me padre's going to kill me…. He told me not to go out that night and to stay home, but did I listen..? No, and now I'm paying for it, groaning, I opened my eyes only to be greeted by the cold icy night. Wait… I was in New York, how the fuck did I get out in the country?! Bringing a hand to my head, I looked around myself to see that the snow was covered by at least an inch of ice. It took me a few tries, but I managed to stand on unsteady legs, my leather pants helped a bit in not slipping.

My contact-covered irises looked p to the sky, judging by the moon's position, to looked early in the morning. Probably about four or so. The trek up the slightly curved driveway, more like a hill, was hell on my feet and legs. I can't begin to fathom how many times I fell on my hands and nearly my face. The top was a slightly different story, though I can say that I shouldn't ice skate, especially when having a hangover.

Just the mound of ice-covered snow in front of the door made me want to just leave right then and die. I was forced to crawl on my hands and knees, leather becoming handy once again, to get to the five inch space on the other side. The door's paint looked to have been stripped. I can't complain, but they need to work on the door a bit. Glancing at my palms briefly shown to me that ice and myself don't mix, especially when I'm forced to crawl. My head banged against the windows in the door before I realized it, though I thanked god that they were Plexiglas.

I strained my ears, but the house remained silent for a minute or two. They must be sleeping still. I brought my hands to rest on the lower windows, smearing a bit of blood in the process, only to hear a dog barking and opening my eyes to see on right in my face on the other side of the windows. The suddenness caused me to fall backwards unfortunately, onto the ice mound. My ass and back were going to get it later.

Great, more pain to my already painful body. I'm surprised I hadn't blacked out again, and in the back of my mind I could feel more cuts on my hands. The dog was shut up, from what I could tell, by a girl's voice. Her face was seen briefly through the windows of the door, before she opened it. Her hazel eyes were confused, but curious! The dog was peering through, or trying to at least, her legs at me.

"Need help?" either this girl was nocturnal or she gets up early with no problem. Frankly I was jealous.

"Teléphono?" I swear, being a mutt for Portuguese, Spanish, Latin American, and Mexican was a gift and a curse all in the same package.

"Sî!" boy was I glad she knew some Spanish. She held out one of her hands, the left I think. My contact-covered irises took in her blunt nails, class ring on her thumb, and the many lines on her palm. At least she was being nice, though she had more of a French accent rather than a Spanish one for an American.

I ended up taking her hand anyway, ignoring the screaming pain in my hands, only for her to pull me up. She must work a bit of heavy things…. When she brought me inside and closed the door; a black cat wanted to get outside, but was too frightened; the dog started sniffing me. Especially sniffing me on my crotch, to which I felt uncomfortable. The telephone was held out to me as she tried her best to get the dog away from my person that may be gay, in my mind.

"Sorry." She smiled sheepishly, trying her best to keep the dog away from my person., I took that initiative to go to where the pellet stove was running. Sadly, my hands hurt, and shook albeit violently. They were just starting to regain their feeling in them. My contact-covered irises watched as the dog apparently gave up and walked passed me to get up on the white cloth-covered couch-like futon.

The girl huffed and retreated down the darkened hallway, to do what I had no I idea. Her footsteps returned a bit, only for me to hear a door closing and water starting. Apparently she got ready at this time everyday. Sighing, I looked at the handheld telephone, before shakily dialing me padre's numero.

---

Sighing shakily, I plopped down the gentlest I could without bothering my aching body. I closed my presumably bloodshot eyes to calm them down. What the fuck happened to me? My mind was jumbled from the moment I left the bar my friends took me out to. I still don't know why I agreed in the first place and now I have me pissed padre on my ass.

"Here." Opening my weary eyes, I saw an empty and washed contact case with a bottle of saline solution being held out to me. I glanced up at the newly-showered girl who let me in. she glanced at my bleeding lip, causing me to glance away subconsciously. She had an understanding look, "We don't have anything to clean your cuts with. The best is you can wash them up and hope they don't get infected."

I knew that wasn't much help, but she was trying to be. Nodding my head tiredly, I accepted the offered items and set them on the arm of the recliner. My hands shook and it was a bit difficult, but I was able to take out my blue contacts, prescription contacts of course. I was internally grateful she crewed the caps on the contact case and capped the saline solution. Relaxing the best I could, I watch glumly as she set them on top of the refrigerator.

"My half-sister'll get them if they are on the counter." She explained, though I had an inkling why she was doing that. I had two of my eight siblings that were only half related to me. Sighing, I turned my hands so they were palms up., I faintly heard water running again, briefly this time, and what sounded like something being squeezed. Opening my eyes, I watched the girl come over with a damp washcloth to clean my hands with.

The cleaning was over in good time, though I kept hissing and taking in sharp intakes of breath in pain when the torn skin was accidentally pulled the wrong way. The brunette held out the slightly bloody washcloth out to me so that I could was my lip. At least she did, I never liked people washing my face on me. I had to use my knuckles, for my hands still hurt from their cleaning.

"What's your eye color?" I paused in my washing to look at the green-eyed girl. Did her eyesight fail her? I blinked at her owlishly while pausing in washing my mouth. My eyebrows lifted at her, making her get a sheepish look on her face while shrugging. I was curious as to what she would say, "What, what do my el ojos look to you?"

"They look brown, but…" she bit her lip, "then again, the look blood red." I blinked at herm I know I have brown eyes, but for them to look blood red. I want to open my mouth to speak, but the faint buzzing of an alarm clock cut me off. The girl looked to the clock on the stove I hadn't noticed briefly. She glanced at me apologetically before leaving the living room, to, I believe, go back down the hallway. Them time, I checked, was six o' clock.

There was some faint talking before the girl came back, "You can turn the television on if you want…." I grinned a small smile, she was nice, too bad this was probably the only time hat I'd see her. However, I wasn't going to pass her up on her offer. The television clicked on and it was already on the news. So she had satellite, at least it promised me entertainment until I could a hold of me padre. There was a scrolling list of schools that were closed.

Nothing on was very promising, but I did one of the many Spanish channels. Glancing at the stove, I found it to be six thirty o' clock. And with glancing that way, presumable came the girl's older brother. His cool-gray eyes locked onto mine. He looked confused, so I tried to explain to him, "Your sister, she let me use the teléphono and said that I could watch the television."

Sometimes I curse having a naturally Spanish-speaking tongue, but he nodded and gave me a weary glance before leaving. Not long after he left, about four or five minutes passed, that his sister came out to look through the fridge, "There are some say days closed." Her green eyes looked over at me, "Was one Central Regional?" There was so much hope in her eyes as well as curiosity, that I changed it back to the news. She came to stand next to the dining table that looked to be dividing the living and dining room.

Her eyes scanned the still-scrolling school districts, before it started over. It wasn't until the says that she gave a small cry of joy. That made me look over questionably, "What?" She flashed me a large grin, "School is closed!" I merely blinked at her, it wasn't that I was stupid or anything, it was surprising because even with the snow, it doesn't look that bad out.

"Would you like anything?" I looked her in the eyes openly, was I hungry? No, so in response to that, I shook my head in a negative. She shrugged, before looking to her younger sister, I believe, who came out. Her mother came out, all dressed and ready for work. For some reason, I felt like I was on the spot.

"Oh! Hello!" her mother smiled, flashing me a bright fake smile. The brunette looked to her mom, then her sister, then to me. The blue-green-gray-eyed, I'm not sure of her eye color, kid came up to me, with her golden-brown hair messy from sleep, but with changed clothes. My heart started to pound painfully, literally, when I noticed that the sun was going to rise soon. What the fuck was wrong with me?!

"He's a friend I know that is at college! He wanted to come over, but left early." The brunette made up. Her mother looked to be contemplating that before agreeing and leaving with the sleepy child. I sighed tiredly, resting my head back onto the recliner top. I closed my eyes wearily, hearing a distant shuffling somewhere in the space in front of my person.

Feeling a type of cloth draped over me made me look to the brunette. She merely smiled sheepishly and shrugged her shoulders. Reaching my hand down to side of the recliner to pull the lever to propel up the foot rest. I shifted on to my side after putting it up, though I wasn't sure what side I was on, before pulling the blanket up over my head, making sure no light crept in. My painfully pounding heart calmed down as soon as I knew I was encased in the darkness.
